The Vengeance Flight Assist device is configurable using text chat commands, and it responds to commands through private text chat. Only you see its responses. New to version 1.06 is an interactive menu. Once invoked you can enable and disable features, view the web document and check for updates using the menu, but you must invoke the menu using a chat command.

The device receives commands on channel 31. If you type commands into open chat as you would to another avatar your flight assist device will not hear them. You must prepend your commands with a slash and the channel number, like this:

Type that into the text chat window and the device will respond with both its current status and a list of commands it will respond to:

Nearby avatars will not see the commands you send to channel 31, but it's not a secure channel. Someone could conceivably have a device that listens to channel 31. Fortunately you won't be typing anything terribly private. The flight assist will only take commands from you, so nobody else can give it instructions, even if they try to use channel 31. Nobody will hear the device's responses because it talks directly to you. Note that its responses are a different color from the chat of other avatars and devices.

The command summary you are given in response to typing '/31 help' into the text chat window is a list of all the commands the flight assist recognizes. All are fairly self-explanatory, but note that if you turn the flight assist device off, you disable all of its features: high-altitude hover, speed boost and momentum arrest. This accomplishes the same thing as detaching it from your HUD or avatar without having to do so. Turn the device off if you wish to fly unassisted.

If you type a command and do not get any response, be sure you sent your command on channel 31. The device responds in some way to every command, valid or not. For example, when you turn Speed Boost off by typing '/31 boost off', the device responds like this:

And if you type something it does not understand on channel 31 it tells you it does not recognize what you typed:

But anything you type on another channel, or into open chat (channel zero), it will not see and will not respond to.
